What is Formative Assessment??
The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by educators to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning.

Benefits for students

  • Students are more motivated to learn.
  • Students take responsibility for their own learning.
  • Students can become users of assessment alongside the teacher.
  • Students learn valuable lifelong skills such as self-evaluation, self-assessment, and goal setting

For the learners of Class IX formative assessment for English subject was as follows (2013-2014)
Designing a travel brochure on any place in India.  (guide points given)

  • This activity enabled the learners to investigate, daft it in innovative and creative manner with an effective and impressive write-up of the place.

 * Story writing — The Strange Man    (Beginning and picture given)

  • This activity helped the learners to use their imagination. Plan, organize and present ideas using “CODER”

Dramatization— Short skit on theme “Burglary”

  • This activity motivated the learners to build up teamwork, empathy and stimulated their imagination, expression and language skills (write their own script)

* Movie—“Cast  Away” – listening and movie review.

  • Learners were able to listen for information and enjoyment. Responded appropriately and critically in a wide range making inference and judgment.

J.A.M. (Just  A  Minute) Speaking skills

  • Learners expressed their ideas coherently, gained confidence and spoke with clarity, diction, proper pronunciation and overall fluency.
